Ruud B. van Heeswijk, PhD, FSCMR is a Senior Lecturer in Radiology at the Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) and the University of Lausanne (UNIL) in Switzerland. He studied Biomedical Engineering at the Eindhoven University of Technology and Johns Hopkins University, and obtained his PhD in Physics at EPFL in Lausanne before joining Matthias Stuber’s group at CHUV, where he advanced to his current position.
His research focuses cardiovascular tissue characterization with MR. His team develops and applies new free-breathing and whole-heart parametric mapping as well as fluorine-19 MRI techniques from preclinical to clinical settings. He also leads HeartMagic, a multimodal, multicentric study on heart failure combining advanced MRI with genomics and metabolomics. His research is funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation and the Swiss Heart Foundation and has received several international awards.
Dr. van Heeswijk has authored over 70 peer-reviewed publications and serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (JCMR) and one of three Editors of the JCMR Journal Club. He currently chairs the SCMR Membership Committee and has previously served on the Publications Committee.
