Professor Ntobeko Ntusi is a cardiologist, a Professor of Medicine at the University of Cape Town and the Clinical Lead for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance at Groote Schuur Hospital. He is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the South African Medical Research Council. He is a Principal Investigator based at the Cape Heart Institute and the Cape Universities Body Imaging Centre, and a Collaborating Investigator based at the Wellcome Centre for Infectious Diseases Research in Africa. He is an Associate Editor of Circulation. He is the Director of the Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Congress of South Africa, the largest CMR meeting in Africa. He has extensive experience with basic science, translational and clinical research and currently supervises postgraduate students and is conducting several single- and multi-centre mechanistic studies, which are mostly CMR-based. He is an active member of SCMR and has contributed to improved understanding of cardiomyopathy, inflammatory heart disease, HIV-associated cardiovascular disease and heart failure in South Africa and globally.
