Sezen Ugan Atik, MD

Sezen Ugan Atik, MD, is an Associate Professor of Pediatric Cardiology and a Cardiac MRI Fellow at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto, affiliated with the University of Toronto. She is a pediatric cardiologist with extensive experience in congenital heart disease, transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography, and advanced cardiac imaging, including cardiac MRI and CT. Before moving to Canada, she served as a consultant pediatric cardiologist at the University of Health Sciences, Istanbul Mehmet Akif Ersoy Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Training and Research Hospital, one of Türkiye’s highest-volume tertiary congenital heart centers.

Dr. Ugan Atik completed her subspecialty training in pediatric cardiology at Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa and her pediatrics residency at Istanbul Kanuni Sultan Suleyman Training and Research Hospital. She has undertaken international observerships in Germany and the United States, including focused training in pediatric cardiac MRI in Kiel, pediatric cardiac surgery in Giessen, pediatric electrophysiology in Washington, DC, and pediatric endocrinology at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, further broadening her clinical and research perspective in complex congenital heart disease.

Her research portfolio includes more than 35 peer-reviewed publications spanning topics such as Fontan circulation, myocarditis, coronary anomalies, interventional cardiology, and advanced imaging techniques in congenital heart disease. She has presented her work at major international meetings, including the World Congress of Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery and multiple AEPC congresses, and has received national awards for both interventional and oral case presentations. Dr. Ugan Atik is also actively engaged in professional societies as Vice President of the Imaging Group of the Turkish Association of Pediatric Cardiology and Heart Surgery and serves as a Review Editor for *Frontiers in Pediatric Cardiology*.

Fluent in Turkish and English, Dr. Ugan Atik is committed to integrating state-of-the-art cardiac imaging with clinical decision-making to improve outcomes for children with complex congenital and acquired heart disease.
