Resident
Fundación Oftalmológíca de Santander
Flordiablanca, Santander, Colombia
I am a 30-year-old fourth-year Radiology resident at the Universidad Autónoma de Bucaramanga (UNAB), where my academic training and professional interests have progressively converged toward advanced cardiovascular imaging and clinical research. My journey in medicine began at UNAB, where I completed my medical degree and first discovered my passion for radiology during the fourth year of my studies. It was during that crucial stage of medical school that I became deeply intrigued by the diagnostic precision, technological innovation, and clinical impact that radiology offers. This early interest evolved into a clear professional calling that has shaped every step of my training.
After completing medical school in 2020, I strengthened my academic foundation by pursuing studies in epidemiology at the Universidad Autónoma de Bucaramanga in 2021. This additional training provided me with a strong understanding of research methodology, evidence-based medicine, and biostatistics. It also equipped me with the necessary tools to evaluate scientific literature critically and to design and conduct research projects with methodological rigor. This background has been invaluable throughout my residency, especially as I have become increasingly involved in academic work and scientific production.
During my radiology residency, I completed my practical training at the Fundación Oftalmológica de Santander (FOSCAL), a respected institution known for its high-quality patient care and advanced imaging services. My experience at FOSCAL allowed me to work with a broad spectrum of imaging modalities while managing diverse and complex clinical cases. The environment provided constant opportunities to strengthen my diagnostic abilities, develop clinical judgment, and collaborate with experienced radiologists and other specialists. These rotations were essential for consolidating my technical and professional skills within the field of radiology.
Motivated by a growing interest in cardiac imaging, I completed a master’s degree in Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging (Cardio-MRI) and Cardiac Computed Tomography (Cardio-CT) at the Universidad Francisco de Vitoria in Spain in 2025. This advanced training program offered a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of cardiovascular anatomy, pathology, and cutting-edge imaging techniques. Completing the master’s degree has significantly strengthened my expertise in cardiovascular imaging and has further motivated me to pursue academic and clinical excellence within this subspecialty. It also reinforced my desire to contribute to the development of new diagnostic tools and research within the cardiovascular field.
Research has always been a central component of my professional identity. Throughout my medical and radiology training, I have actively participated in various research initiatives and have published several scientific articles on different radiology-related topics. My epidemiology background has supported my ability to conduct high-quality research, while my recent specialization in cardiac imaging has sparked a renewed passion for contributing to the scientific community. After completing my master’s degree, my interest in research related specifically to cardiac MRI and cardiac CT has grown even stronger, and I am committed to expanding my academic work in this area.
