Erasmo was born in Saltillo, Mexico. He obtained his medical degree from the Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila (UAdeC). He completed his internal medicine residency at the Hospital Muguerza, Universidad de Monterrey. Dr De La Peña completed a fellowship in cardiology at the Instituto Nacional de Cardiologia Ignacio Chavez and Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico.
He continued his training in two fellowships in advanced Cardiovascular Imaging at the Brigham And Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, as well as Stanford University Medical Center.
Erasmo is a pioneer in advanced cardiovascular imaging (CT, CMR and Nuclear) in Mexico and Latin-America, serving as the founder and director of the cardiovascular imaging department at Hospital Muguerza (Christus-Health) in 2002, and creating an SCCT endorsed program. He is a founding member of the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography and served as chairman of the Latin American Chapter of the Society of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance. He currently serves as the Chair of Cardiovascular Medicine at TecSalud, medical branch of Tecnologico de Monterrey University . He's also a professor of medicine (Cardiology) and radiology and serves as the program director of the advanced cardiovascular imaging fellowship.
Erasmo is a national and international speaker at conferences, and has published more than 50 peer reviewed articles as well as Book Chapters.
When not "Doctoring", Erasmo is an amateur musician, photographer and painter.
