Tomaz Podlesnikar was born on 26th October 1981 in Maribor, Slovenia. He obtained his medical degree at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana in 2007. In 2014 he became internal medicine specialist and in 2018 cardiology and vascular medicine specialist. In 2022 he obtained PhD at the University of Leiden with the thesis “Multimodality Imaging for Myocardial Injury in Acute Myocardial Infarction and the Assessment of Valvular Heart Disease”, under mentorship of Prof Jeroen J Bax and Dr Victoria Delgado. He currently holds the position of cardiologist at the Department of Cardiac Surgery, University Medical Centre Maribor, and at the Department of Cardiology, University Medical Centre Ljubljana. His main expertise is multimodality cardiovascular imaging, in particular CMR and echocardiography. He is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Maribor. He works as a sports cardiologist at the Institute of Sports Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Maribor. For several years he has been an active member of the EACVI, especially the young community (Heart Imagers of Tomorrow – HIT) and the Slovenian Society of Cardiology. He is currently deputy chair of the EACVI Scientific Initiatives Committee. He has been the Slovenian national coordinator for EURECA, ESC-led international multicentric registry. He has been a co-director of a 2 successful international CMR courses (2018, 2022), organized by the Slovenian Society of Cardiology and endorsed by the EACVI. He has published several peer reviewed articles in the field of multimodality imaging, presented research at major international cardiology conferences and has been an invited lecturer at international cardiovascular imaging congresses. He is an editorial board member of the European Heart Journal - Imaging Methods and Practice, an emerging editorial consultant for JACC Cardiovascular Imaging and an editorial consultant for JACC: Case Reports.
