Medical Student
Karolinska Institute
STOCKHOLM, Stockholms Lan, Sweden
Raman Vashishtha is an international medical student at Karolinska Institutet, with a strong interdisciplinary foundation in medicine, business studies, and healthcare leadership. His academic path includes medical training at Karolinska Institutet, business studies at Stockholm University, and research coursework through the FOLÄK program. Across these settings, Raman has developed a profile centered on clinical engagement, translational research, and student-driven innovation.
Raman’s clinical experiences span both international and Swedish healthcare systems. He began his early medical exposure as an intern at the Neuro-Spine Emergency Hospital in Bangalore, working under neurosurgery and anesthesiology teams in the management of acute spinal cord injuries. At St. Göran’s Addiction Emergency Department, he has gained further experience in patient assessment, acute management of alcohol and drug-related emergencies, and the coordination of care across high-pressure clinical environments.
Alongside his clinical work, Raman has contributed to multiple research initiatives at Karolinska Institutet. Within the regenerative neurosurgery group led by Mikael Svensson and under Jakob Kjell’s project, he worked on improving brain tissue detection technologies with applications in traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries. He is currently part of Marcus Carlsson’s Clinical Physiology research group, focusing on MRI-based detection and mapping of cardiac allograft vasculopathy (CAV) in heart-transplant patients in Sweden.
In his cardiology research, Raman works with Jannike Nickanders leadership in advanced MRI-based investigations of cardiac allograft vasculopathy (CAV) in heart-transplant patients. His work involves cardiac MRI acquisition and analysis, development of mapping techniques, and systematic data collection to improve early detection, risk stratification, and understanding of disease progression in post-transplant cardiac populations across Sweden.
Raman is deeply engaged in student leadership at the medical union in Stockholm where he leads corporate relations and major career initiatives as Chairperson of the Business Committee and manages strategic partner collaborations as Head of the Partnership Programme. He has previously chaired the Global Committee and continues to serve as Vice Chairperson of the Sports Committee, supporting international student integration and organizing large-scale sports activities for more than 2,500 students each semester.
Raman is the Founder of LinkUp, a student-driven organization designed to promote medical curiosity and interdisciplinary collaboration. Through panel discussions, expert lectures, and formal events, LinkUp connects students with leaders across healthcare, research, and industry.
Fluent in English, Hindi, and Swedish, with communicative proficiency in Spanish, Raman is known for his strong communication skills, creativity, effective teamwork, and leadership. His work reflects a commitment to advancing medical education, promoting student engagement, and contributing to research that strengthens future clinical practice.
