Clinical Scientist
Philips Research North America
Rochester, Minnesota, United States
Burak Demirel, PhD, is a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Clinical Scientist at Philips North America, based at One Discovery Square in Rochester, Minnesota. In this role, he supports collaborative translational research with Mayo Clinic, focusing on advancing clinical MRI and AI-driven imaging technologies in cardiovascular and interventional applications. He works closely with the Artificial Intelligence for Cardiovascular Imaging Research and Exploration (AI-CARE) group, the Interventional Radiology division at Saint Marys Campus, and teams within the Center for Advanced Imaging Research, helping drive innovation in imaging science and clinical implementation.
Dr. Demirel completed his postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, where his work centered on advanced signal and image processing, optimization, and image reconstruction for accelerated cardiovascular MRI. He earned his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Minnesota in 2023, focusing on physics-driven deep learning and reconstruction algorithms for high-resolution, accelerated MRI. During his master’s studies, he investigated Magnetic Particle Imaging (MPI) and characterized magnetostimulation limits in the human body. His research continues to bridge engineering innovation with clinical translation, with a strong emphasis on next-generation MRI and AI-based reconstruction.
