Dr. Salma Ahmed Essam Abou ElNaga is a cardiology specialist and Assistant Lecturer of Cardiology at Kasr Al Ainy Hospital, Cairo University, where she is actively involved in clinical service, advanced cardiovascular imaging, and undergraduate medical education. She obtained her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.Ch) from Cairo University in 2015, graduating with Excellent with Honour, followed by a Master’s degree in Cardiovascular Medicine in 2022 with a Very Good grade. In November 2023, she successfully passed the European Examination of Core Cardiology (EECC), jointly administered by the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and the UEMS Cardiology Section.
Dr. Abou ElNaga’s clinical foundation was shaped through comprehensive training at Kasr Al Ainy University Hospitals. She completed a rigorous three-year cardiology residency between 2018 and 2021, gaining extensive experience in cardiology emergency care, inpatient management, coronary care, general and specialized cardiology clinics, and procedural skills. Prior to residency, she trained as a Cardiology Intern at the National Heart Institute, further consolidating her exposure to acute and advanced cardiovascular care.
Since 2021, she has served as a Cardiology Specialist at Kasr Al Ainy, where her responsibilities include leading patient care in general cardiology and CCU rounds, managing a weekly outpatient clinic, supporting the heart failure service, and performing transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography within the non-invasive imaging unit. Dr. Abou ElNaga’s primary academic and clinical interest lies in advanced cardiovascular imaging, with a particular passion for Cardiac Magnetic Resonance (CMR). She has completed EACVI-endorsed Level 1 and Level 2 CMR courses, participated in multiple CMR workshops, and remains actively engaged in expanding the role of CMR in the evaluation of cardiomyopathies, myocarditis, infiltrative disease, and heart failure phenotyping. Her dedication to imaging is complemented by strong skills in echocardiography and non-invasive hemodynamic assessment.
Her research contribution includes co-authorship of the TRIUMF trial, a randomized controlled study published in The Egyptian Heart Journal, and she has presented clinical cases and research posters at major national and international conferences, including ESC Heart Failure, ESC Congress, and CardioEgypt. She participates regularly in departmental academic meetings and maintains active membership in the Egyptian Society of Cardiology.
Dr. Abou ElNaga is committed to advancing cardiovascular care through excellence in imaging, evidence-based practice, and medical education. Her long-term goal is to integrate state-of-the-art CMR and multimodality imaging into personalized heart failure management and the early detection of myocardial disease.
