My name is Angela Elhyka, and I graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Padua in 2020. During my fifth year of medical school, I participated in an Erasmus program at the University of Freiburg, where I had the opportunity to attend the cardiology center of Bad Krozingen – Herzzentrum. This experience sparked a strong interest in cardiology, leading me to complete my thesis in electrophysiology.
Throughout my residency, I strengthened my passion for both clinical practice and research, developing a particular focus on multimodality cardiovascular imaging. Currently, my experience is primarily centered on echocardiography and cardiac magnetic resonance; however, I firmly believe that a comprehensive understanding of all imaging techniques — including echocardiography, cardiac MRI, CT, and nuclear medicine — is essential to fully leverage the diagnostic potential of non-invasive imaging and enhance patient care.
During the final year of my residency, I focused primarily on cardiac magnetic resonance. In particular, I completed a training period at the CMR Unit of the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals, which allowed me to follow all the steps required to perform a high-quality cardiac MRI examination and to gain extensive exposure to a wide range of cases — from cardiomyopathies and ischemic heart disease to congenital heart conditions. From a research perspective, I have already contributed to projects investigating the role of CMR in cardiomyopathies and in patients with myocardial infarction with non-obstructive coronary arteries (MINOCA).
