Medical Student
West Virginia University School of Medicine
Morgantown, West Virginia, United States
I am a current 3rd-year Medical Student in the M.D. Program at the West Virginia University (WVU) School of Medicine in West Virginia, USA. I graduated in 2022 from a rigorous pre-medicine program with the highest of honors at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, Virginia, where I attained a double-major in Biology and Psychology with a minor in Chemistry all within the standard four-year undergraduate curriculum. Since starting medical school in 2022, I have become involved in various opportunities that focus on improving physician-patient communication within the field of Pediatrics. My time with local physicians and cardiologists has offered unique perspectives that shaped my interest in helping underserved populations with receiving optimal, standardized care. To strengthen initiative at WVUMedicine’s new Children’s Hospital, I joined the research team in our Department of Pediatric Cardiology. Here, I am training with Dr. Mehdi Hedjazi Moghari on Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) applications in congenital heart disease and have assumed the role as a leading young researcher in the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at West Virginia University. With his guidance, I have also grown into an expert in the unique intersection of technology and medicine, and am using my acquired skills to train peers, colleagues, and physicians in the use of VR to guide decision making in pediatric congenital disease cases. My current academic trajectory consists of continuing my candidacy to receive my Doctor of Medicine degree (M.D.) in 2027, with aspirations to pursue a Pediatric residency and a fellowship in Pediatric Cardiology. In the future, I envision broadening my research portfolio to help support future pediatricians get involved in societies such as SCMR to inform better health outcomes for children as well as a healthier adult population by proxy. I aim to become a physician-scientist who contributes to evidence-based, international research that institutes updated guidelines in my daily practice as a pediatrician.
