Dr. Lorena S. Capeline is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Libin Cardiovascular Institute, University of Calgary, specializing in advanced cardiac imaging and precision-medicine approaches to inflammatory cardiomyopathies. Trained in Brazil (UNIFESP | UFPA) as a cardiologist, with expertise in echocardiography, cardiac MRI, and translational research in cardiomyopathies—including amyloidosis and myocarditis—she also holds certification in internal medicine. She brings more than 10 years of combined clinical and research experience, bridging patient-centred cardiovascular care with cutting-edge imaging science.
Her research focuses on characterizing myocardial injury, remodeling, and tissue phenotype through multimodality imaging, and integrated phenomic analysis. Dr. Capeline plays a central role in the MYCOVACC MRI Sub-Study, a multicentre Canadian initiative investigating cardiac outcomes associated with COVID-19 mRNA vaccination. Her work includes collaborating with national sites to standardize imaging workflows, ensure data quality, and support the development of refined diagnostic and prognostic frameworks for vaccine-related myocarditis using CMR metrics, biomarkers, and computational tools.
Her broader research interests include cardiomyopathies, myocardial tissue mapping, T1/T2 parametric techniques, ECV quantification, and the application of imaging-based phenotyping to support early detection and longitudinal tracking of myocardial disease. She is particularly interested in how multimodal imaging and data-driven approaches can improve risk stratification and contribute to more precise, equitable cardiovascular care.
Dr. Capeline’s long-term goal is to advance precision-health strategies in cardiomyopathies by integrating imaging, clinical data, and computational phenotyping to better capture disease heterogeneity and support personalized patient outcomes.
