Ramesh Valapil is the Imaging Clinical Research Facility Manager and Service Manager for Cardiovascular MRI (CMR) at King’s College London (KCL) and Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust Hospital. With over 20 years of experience across radiography and clinical research imaging services, Ramesh has led transformative growth in CMR, tripling service capacity at KCL through a “grow your own and retain” workforce development model that has built a resilient and highly skilled radiography team.
Ramesh holds a BSc in Radiography from Father Muller Medical College, India, a postgraduate certificate in MRI, and an MBA from Aston Business School, UK. His career spans international roles as an MRI radiographer and educator in India and Kuwait, as well as senior leadership positions in the UK, including Lead CMR Radiographer at Wolverhampton and St Bartholomew’s Hospitals in London.
Alongside his operational and educational leadership, Ramesh has a strong interest in innovation at the interface of clinical services, research, and industry. He is currently working with industry partners to explore the application of generative AI and agentic models to improve MRI service efficiency, with a particular focus on reducing patient Did Not Attend (DNA) rates and optimising productivity while maintaining patient-centered care.
An active member of the SCMR Membership and Education Committees, Ramesh has contributed to internationally accredited SCMR Level 1 training materials and has delivered invited lectures internationally. Most recently, he co-directed a highly successful two-day CMR course for Radiographers and Technologists at KCL, where delegates received complimentary SCMR memberships as part of their training.
