Cardiologist
Hospital do Coração - HCor - Brazil
Curitiba, Parana, Brazil
Tiago Augusto Magalhães, MD, PhD is a cardiologist with dedicated expertise in Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (CT) and Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR). He graduated in Medicine from the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Paraná (PUC-PR) in Curitiba, Brazil, and completed his residency in Cardiology at Hospital Cardiológico Costantini.
Pursuing advanced training in noninvasive cardiovascular imaging, Dr. Magalhães completed a formal fellowship in Cardiovascular CT and MR at the Heart Institute (InCor), Hospital das Clínicas, University of São Paulo Medical School (HC-FMUSP). He subsequently obtained his PhD in Sciences (Cardiology) from the same institution in 2012, focusing on cardiovascular imaging. He later undertook a postdoctoral fellowship in Cardiovascular Imaging (CT/MR) at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, in collaboration with InCor/HC-FMUSP, further refining his expertise in advanced cardiac imaging techniques.
Dr. Magalhães currently serves as an attending cardiologist in the Cardiovascular CT and MR services at Hospital Sírio-Libanês in São Paulo, at Hospital do Coração (HCor), and at the Complexo Hospital de Clínicas of the Federal University of Paraná (CHC-UFPR) in Curitiba. He also leads the cardiac teleradiology team at Teleimagem, contributing to the expansion of high-quality cardiac imaging to centers across Brazil.
In addition to his clinical roles, he is a collaborating professor in the graduate program in Internal Medicine and Health Sciences at CHC-UFPR, where he is involved in the training of residents and fellows, and postgraduate students in cardiovascular imaging/clinical cardiology. His main interests include coronary artery disease assessment using CT and CMR, myocardial tissue characterization, and the integration of multimodality imaging into patient-centered care pathways.
Dr. Magalhães remains actively engaged in research and education, helping to bridge cutting-edge cardiac imaging techniques with everyday clinical practice in Brazil and internationally.
