Dr. Anne Marie Valente is a Professor of Pediatrics and Medicine at Harvard Medical School. She completed training in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, Adult Cardiovascular Disease, and Pediatric Cardiology at Duke University Medical Center. She is a staff cardiologist at the Boston Children’s Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Dartmouth Medical Center. Dr. Valente is the Division Chief of the Boston Adult Congenital Heart (BACH) Program, and in this role has established the BACH Scholars Program and launched several professional development initiatives aimed at fostering collaboration and multigenerational mentorship. She is also the Co-Director of the Brigham and Women’s Pregnancy and Cardiovascular Disease Program and the founder of the Standardized Outcomes in Cardiovascular Care (STORCC) program—one of the largest single-center, prospective cardio-obstetric registries in the United States.
Her research centers on improving outcomes for adults with congenital heart disease, with a particular focus on individuals with repaired tetralogy of Fallot (TOF). She co-founded the international INDICATOR registry, which identified CMR imaging predictors of adverse outcomes in TOF and helped develop and validate a mortality risk score for this population. She co-chaired the 2020 Appropriate Use Criteria for Non-Invasive Multimodality Imaging in congenital heart disease and is a co-author of the 2023 SCMR position statement on competency-based cardiovascular magnetic resonance training. Dr. Valente has contributed to numerous clinical practice guidelines for the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, and the European Society of Cardiology. Since 2021, she has served as an Associate Editor for the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. As a member of SCMR for more than two decades, Dr. Valente has contributed extensively through service on multiple committees, including the Science Committee, Scientific Program Committee, and Clinical Practice Committee, and has also been an active member of the Women and CMR Steering Committee.
