Associate Professor
University of Wisconsin-Madison
Madison, Wisconsin, United States
Dr. Alejandro Roldán-Alzate obtained his B.S in Biomedical Engineering at the University EIA-CES in Medellin Colombia, where he is from. Dr. Dr. Roldán-Alzate obtained his M.S and PhD in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Currently, Dr. Roldán-Alzate an Associate Professor in the Departments of Radiology and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. He is the director of the Cardiovascular Fluid Dynamics Laboratory, which has the main interest of coupling engineering tools with medical imaging to non-invasively characterize the hemodynamics in different physiological and pathological conditions. The current work in his laboratory has
focused on cardiovascular and abdominal applications, such as the development of computational and 3D printed models of total cardiopulmonary connections, aortic dissection and portal circulation and bladder biomechanics. His training and career has focused on cardiovascular hemodynamics, using both experimental and computational fluid dynamics based on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). He has combined his interdisciplinary training to be able to interpret quantitative information obtained from MRI and simultaneously correlate these findings to clinical aspects.
