Professor Robert Manka, M.D. FSCMR is the director of the cardiac magnetic resonance imaging unit of the University Hospital Zürich, Switzerland. He received his medical degree in 2002 and was trained in internal medicine and cardiology at the University of Bonn, German Heart Institute Berlin and the University Hospital Zürich. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Institute for Biomedical Engineering at the University and ETH Zürich in the field of cardiac magnetic resonance imaging. In 2011, he was awarded with the JCMR Best Manuscript Award by the Society of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance. His research centres on developing cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging methods, specifically for the assessment of ischemic heart disease and heart failure. In 2013, he received the Venia legendi (Habilitation) from the University of Zürich with “Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging in coronary heart disease”. As Lecturer at the University of Zürich, Professor Manka is regularly involved in teaching medical students, residents and international fellows. Dr. Manka has published over 200 scientific papers in such peer-reviewed journals as the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, the Lancet, Circulation and European Heart Journal and he has also authored and published several book chapters on cardiovascular disease. He is a member of the Editorial board of the European Heart Journal. Furthermore, Professor Manka is the EACVI Vice-President elect and acts as Chair CMR Lab Accred, CMR Exam Board member, and member of the EACVI Scientific Initiatives Committee of the European Society of Cardiology.
