Dr. Bandettini is a Senior Research Physician, specializing in Adult Cardiology within the Cardiology Branch of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) and has been engaged in the field of cardiovascular magnetic resonance for over two decades. She serves as the Chief of the NHLBI Clinical Cardiovascular MRI Program and Core at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Dr. Bandettini’s early work focused on using cardiovascular MRI (CMR) to characterize ischemic heart disease and improve the diagnosis of obstructive coronary artery disease in acute clinical settings. Dr. Bandettini’s more recent research and publications have expanded to include the clinical translation of novel CMR technology (e.g., low-field CMR, parametric mapping, and quantitative perfusion) and applications of advanced imaging to better characterize, diagnose, and manage cardiovascular disease. Dr. Bandettini has a particular interest in applications of CMR quantitative myocardial perfusion, examining the pathophysiology of cardiac disease in patients with non-obstructive epicardial coronary artery disease and in patients with systemic diseases. Dr. Bandettini has served on the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Board of Trustees, contributed to multi-societal imaging consensus guidelines, and served on CMR educational and advocacy committees. She has been bestowed the title of “Master” of the SCMR reflecting her lifetime dedication to advancing CMR methods and applications.
